It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

So we just love Charlie Brown!!!  I thought why not have a It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown family night!!  It was loaded with fun.  Pumpking carving & watching the movie & eating LOTS!!!

This is our family's favorite item!!!  Especially Matthew's.  He loves popcorn!!  We have put this to good use over the year.  We can say this was the best Christmas present!!:)

Then we finished up with this fun activity,  Usually I get the kids the book & you have the picture right there for you to carve.  This year no pictures!  I wanted them to use their imagination.  THey sure did!  They came up with these ideas on Pinterest but it was the real scary kid they usually do.  And they went right along with our Charlie Brown theme.

Halloween was a fun time for all of us!!  With football, soccer, fall festival, Halloween party & Trick-or-Treating we needed the extra hour of sleep!  Here's a little peek into how we celebrated this Hallowen season:)

Every party needs a Halloween bar.  TJ Maxx had the hook up on all the fun candy!  Gummy worms (black & Orange), bats, & the all time fav orage & black Coco Rocks (chocolate rocks).
Oh he melts my heart!!!  This reminded me of the Golberg's episode this week.  Paige did not want to dress up this year:(  But Matthew will always & he was super excited I was going to!!  We went to Party City for some decorations & they did not have a mask.  We got home & he dug his out for me.  His costume cracked me up!!  He scared many but just made lots laugh!!

The Mr & I...  That's as dressed up as he'll get:)
Happy Halloween!!!!

Halloween Fun

So this was what was really happening this week.  Plus add Red Ribbon Week, oh & a fire drill in the middle of our Halloween Party!!!  But Good times all around!!!

We our working hard on our Comprehension Strategies.  This week our strategy was Determining Importance as we read.  On Friday we had a great time doing some Science experiments!!  The students were introduced to the Scientific Method.  We did 2 experiments Fuzzy Candy Corn Science & Dissolving Candy Corn.  The kids had a great time!!

Then we did a STEM Challenge.  The students had 1 cup of candy corn & 100 toothpicks.  They had to build a free standing tower & see if theirs was the tallest.  They collaborated together & came up with a plan before they started.  Then they were given 15 minutes to build their tower.  As they started they ALL realized this challenge was harder than they thought.  We paused & they collaborated again to see if they could come up with another plan.  They were really into this challenge & hated when 15 minutes were up.

At the end of the day we had a little Halloween snack & watched "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Al in all with a fuul moon & Halloween it was another great week in 3rd grade!!

What's Been Going on in 3rd Grade

Hello all!  We have been busy in 3rd grade.  We have finished up learning character traits at the end of September.  The students then read a book of their choice & answered questions about the character in their book & drew a picture.  They shared their Character Bag in a group with their classmates! When students were finished they filled out a rubric to self assess themselves.

We have started to learn  comprehension strategies to use while we are reading.  These are the "toolbox" to our learning.  One strategy we have been working on is Schema, which is our prior knowldge.  To start off our study of schema, they needed to tell one memory they have & added it to our schema anchor chart. They had also put up a piece of tissue paper in the girls head to remember the stuff in our brain sticks in our head!

Then we finished up the week with our web of learning.  We read abook on spiders.  As I read students needed to write, Before Reading-  What do you already know about spiders?  During-  What are some new things you have learned?  & After Reading-  What is something you thought you knew but your learning has changed?  Then we made a circle and each child had to recall one thing they learned from reading our Spider book.  The kids had a blast doing this activity!

In Science we have started learning about STEM (S-Science, T-Technology, E-Engineering & M-Mathematics).  We did The Oreo Chalenge to introduce STEM.  They rules were they were only allowed to use oreos & it had to be free standing.  Students had to collaborate together a plan of how to build their tower.  Then they tried many different ways to build their tower. Some tried taking the white middle out & using it as "glue", others just put oreos on top of each other, while some built their like a tower.  After we made our towers we measured them & recorded our data.  Finally they used computers & ipads to research the best way to build their towers.  I will start sending home a STEM challenge a month to work on as a family!!

Finally, we have started researching the planets.  The students each picked one planet & worked in groups to research that planet.  Next week we will be working with the Chrome books to put together a presentation using Google Slides.  Students will present their presentation to their classmates.

This week we will kick off Red Ribbon Week.  We will discuss the importance of not doing drugs.  Here is the activites for each day.

Thanks for stopping by!  I will try to be better with posting about our days in third grade!  Be looking for Brag Tags & Camp Share -a- Story!!

First Week of School

It's been a busy week but wonderful week.  All the students have come to school every day ready to learn!  It's great to seem them so eager every day & asking "What are we doing today?"

We have had many exciting learning experiences.  We celebrated the 3rd day of Third grade.  Students brought in 3 objects to describe themselves & shared them with the class.  Students then wrote about the students and what they learned about their new friends.  We played Third Day Scoot & "scooted" around the class answering questions.  We also posed for a third day picture!

We worked in groups to come up with reason Why 3rd Grade Rocks!!!  The consensus was early lunch!!  Then we wrote about the different reasons we came up with.  They will be hanging up at the PTO meeting in a couple of weeks!

On Thursday we talked about writing sentences with 7 or more words.  Since we are getting bigger our sentences should be more than "I can run. or I like blue."  They need to use more detail.  To instill this skill & a Get to Know You Activity everyone put a glove on & grabbed some M & M's.  For each M & M grabbed they needed to write a sentence with seven or more words.  Then what better way to wash down their M & M's with 7UP to remember to use 7 or more words!  Their sentences were quit unique!!!

To wrap up on Friday we made a Get to Know You bracelet.  The students put different color beads on their pipe cleaners that described them.

What a great week we had!!!  Can't wait to start all over again tomorrow!!  Looking forward to an exciting year with lots of learning opportunities!!!
